Bows

Filed in Uncategorized

I have a deep love for bows, but they are often done in a tacky and, frankly, ugly way. Below are a few examples that prove that bows can be very, very chic.

Checking In

Hey readers-

My sincere apologies in not updating this week. I started a new job on Monday and have been focusing all my energies and brain power on that….though they have re-directed to Irene the past 24 hours, who is now appearing to have quite the “womp” moment. Even so,  I am relieved she was not the violent tempest the media has hyped her up to be.

I hope to update on the regular again – I think about this blog everyday – but, right now, work is my priority, especially since it is my dream job.

Finally, please take note: I am no longer @lovely20s but now @ginnynam. “Ginny” because it is my Korean name.

Will have more to update soon.

Black & Blue

I am loving the navy blue and black combination lately. What was once a fashion don’t is clearly now a fashion do.

Banana Republic Mad Men

Filed in Uncategorized

Banana Republic and AMC have teamed up to create the limited edition “Mad Men” collection inspired by the hit show. The collection was designed by Banana Republic Creative Director, Simon Kneen, and “Mad Men” Emmy Award-winning Costume Designer, Janie Bryant.

Bloggers gathered last week at the Rockefeller Center store to fete the launch and play “Mad Men” dress up. The collection features nearly 65 pieces and has the cool, polished glamour of the 1960s. The pieces are lady-like and have a restrained sex appeal, making it very relevant now, especially for this coming Fall/Winter season where “adult-dressing” will be a big trend.

My favorite piece was the navy blue and black houndstooth sheath, which fits like a dream. The proportions are just right, making it figure-flattering and comfortable to wear. I also love the leopard print cardigan all the Banana Republic women were wearing the morning of the event, as well as the leopard print scarves and pumps. The collection also offers tie-neck blouses, high-waisted skirts and trench coats.

“It’s so rewarding to help create a collection that will allow fans of the series to channel their own “Mad Men” style and take home fashionable items that are modern, not costume,” says Janie Bryant.

Banana Republic captured the entire event through Instagram. Check out the images on their Instaprint gallery here.

Anthropologie Color + Print

Filed in Uncategorized

Last week, I went to the Anthropologie Color + Print event, and it was just about the cutest thing I’ve been to this summer. From the invites to the treats all the way down to the USB flash drives in our gift bags, every detail had a Anthro-esque charm to it. I’ve been an Anthropologie fan for quite some time so I had a great time.

At the event, bloggers played dress-up in the colorful Anthropologie showroom with the equally colorful fall collection. Anthropologie designers, stylists and buyers were also on hand to provide help and professional insight. After a few sips of champagne from a can and catching up with Deanne of Dream Sequins and Carolyn of The Daily Obsession, I got my makeup done and started mixing and matching clothes for my Smilebooth photos (above!).

The Anthropologie Fall/Winter 2011 collection is rustic with a playful twist. As expected, there was a lot of color and print — my favorite being a bright lemon yellow cropped jacket and electric pink wool sweater. There were great textures as well, especially on the chunky knits, which made me long for fall. Below is my final look:

Hope you like! Anthropologie is actually holding a contest on their Facebook page right now where the five bloggers with the most “likes” will have the opportunity to have their looks professionally styled, photographed and sold on Anthropologie.com. So if you feel so inclined to kindly vote for my look here, I would be so grateful. More photos from the evening:

How adorable is Deanne! Her look is one of my favorites. She is the one who made me fall in love with that lemon yellow cropped jacket.

A big thank you to the ladies of Anthropologie, who were incredibly warm and friendly as can be.

Art on clothes. Quite literally. These dresses look like someone painted right on them, as if the dresses are the canvases.

Peter Pan Collars

Filed in Uncategorized

I am having a Peter Pan collar moment right now. The look has the perfect mix of femininity and charming boyish flair. It can look a little kiddie (which is why I give extra caution to older women who want to try this look), so I do not suggest pairing with ruffles or additional frills. Keep it sleek. A parka or a pair of leather pants, for example, will balance the look by giving it an edgier feel.

My version. I picked up this dress from one of my favorite boutiques in town. It’s called Miss U. It’s one of those boutiques where they have one (if you’re lucky 2 or 3) of a single piece. None are designer. There was only one of this dress so I am glad to have found it. Heart printed dress with lace Peter Pan collar.
